The amazingly talented, tormented, and true to self Frida Khalo was and is a beacon for artists and activists alike. Her powerful self portraits and unflinching honesty are what attracts people to her work the most. She was a survivor of Polio and a terrible accident, both of which contributed to her bold fashion choices- large skirts and an “au natural” unibrow that she refused to pluck ( as an indirect result of being bedridden an alone, left to examine and accept her beauty and also hide her disfigurement with skirts). Her art has truly left a large mark on society, and her fashion choices were always a topic for discussion.

Once she died, her husband and later a close friend both kept her clothing locked away, most likely to preserve them. Fortunately for the adoring public, these items are now on display at the Museo Frida Khalo in Mexico for a short time. We would LOVE to be able to browse her collection of floral pieces, Mexican folk dresses and undoubtedly amazing accessories.

Awards for deserving movies, like 12 Years A Slave, winning Best Drama are great. But give us the Red Carpet!

It’s safe to say that we here at Cecilia Gonzales Jewelry are fashion lovers. When we aren’t creating new pieces, we’re obsessively browsing fashion magazines and blogs because, well, why not? Fashion is fun and expressive, and when personal style is a factor, it totally can project someone’s feelings and personalities to the world. And that’s a great thing. What’s even better is when you throw in amazing couturiers, jewelers, and shoe designers. Oh, and teams of hair and makeup professionals.

Enter: The Golden Globes.

The 71st annual awards show was full of actors, musicians and writers, and lots of great Red Carpet moments. Below we’ve chosen a few of our favorites. We love the bursts of color and texture. Also, young designers like Charlotte Olympia and Proenza Schouler had their pieces on quite a few starlets, which is always great to see.
